Two studies seek to show the benefits of cannabinoids for liver health

A research team at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) in the Netherlands recently launched a three-year study into whether medicinal cannabis oil can help to regress liver-cancer tumours.

The pilot will involve 20 liver-cancer patients who have exhausted all other avenues of treatment but still have the liver function required to “process” cannabis oil. This type of study has not been carried out before, according to the research team. “It is pioneering in many ways,” said surgeon and lead researcher Maarten Nijkamp.
