State bank regulators call for America Competes to incorporate SAFE Act

US state bank regulators have asked Congress to provide legal cannabis businesses with access to financial services by integrating a bill preventing banks from being penalised for doing so into a broader law on innovation and competition.

In a letter to both the House of Representatives and the Senate, James Cooper, acting president and CEO of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS), the national organisation of bank regulators from all 50 US states, urged them to include the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Act in the final report of the America Competes Act.
