A bid to legalise recreational cannabis in the US state of Delaware failed when lawmakers fell just short in a rare bid to overturn a governor’s veto.
Delaware’s Democrat-controlled Senate voted in May in support of a bill to legalise adult possession of up to 1 oz of cannabis, sending the bill to governor John Carney for final approval. But Carney, also a Democrat, vetoed the bill on 24th May, saying too many questions remain unanswered about the long-term effects of legalising recreational use.
