Currently, hemp cultivation and processing are illegal in Brazil, with legislation considering hemp and cannabis as equal in law. That said, in August 2020 a bill was revised by the Special Commission on Cannabis-based Medicines, which would define industrial hemp as a cannabis variety without psychoactive effects if passed. This bill could have far-reaching consequences for the industry in Brazil if passed, beginning with the ability to cultivate and process hemp and medical cannabis.
