The regulatory and business troubles experienced by a Canadian company demonstrate how sensitive the cannabis market can be, even where it has been legalised. Namaste Technologies has landed in hot water after attempts to recruit new medical cannabis users in the province of Quebec went awry.
A party held in Montreal by Namaste, a cannabis distribution and retail company which is also planning an expansion into Europe, saw the firm attempt to sign up new medical users to its NamasteMD online platform, which it says “provides a seamless, fast and secure way to get your medical cannabis prescription in Canada”.
The company is reported to have used provocatively dressed women in nurses’ uniforms to get new users to sign up and gain a prescription after an online assessment by a nurse practitioner – an advanced nurse qualified to issue prescriptions – based in the neighbouring province of Ontario....
