Government officials in Guyana believe the Industrial Hemp Bill, expected to be voted on by Parliament by the end of June, will be a big step towards the creation of a legal framework for hemp cultivation and manufacturing.
The 39-page bill aims to “provide for the cultivating and manufacturing of industrial hemp and hemp related products; provide for the conducting of research on industrial hemp or any other activity concerning or related to industrial hemp, and establish the Guyana Industrial Hemp Regulatory Authority”.
It is backed by president Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and is expected to be approved by a majority of the 65-member National Assembly.
