Belgium: The Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AFMPS) has told CBD-Intel that delta-8 THC is prohibited as a consumer product, and anyone dealing in it must be licensed by the AFMPS. The agency also said hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) is legal and does not require a licence; however, while there is as yet no official proposal, the regulatory framework might change soon. It added that it is allowed to chemically convert a cannabinoid extracted from hemp to another cannabinoid, as long as neither cannabinoid is banned.

Belgium: Brussels mayor Philippe Close, vice-president of the Socialist Party, which is part of the ruling coalition, is calling for a major national debate on drugs before the 2024 national elections, media reports. Close said that by decriminalising cannabis, Belgium could focus on curbing the smuggling of other drugs, while approaching addiction from a public perspective rather than one of repression.

Belgium: The government has notified fellow EU member states through the TRIS Database of a bill to ban pouches containing nicotine or cannabinoids. The stated aim of the ban is to prevent both known and potential adverse health effects of these new products, discourage their use by young people and avoid possible negative effects on anti-tobacco efforts. The standstill period to submit comments will end on 16th September.

Belgium: The Federal Public Health Service has updated its list of notified herbal products for smoking, which includes hemp flowers and other smokable CBD products. Products not on the list may not be placed on the Belgian market without going through the notification process.
