Day One for Canada – the first step into a brave new world

Canada’s cannabis age officially dawned today, with some CBD products as well as the plant itself becoming legal for retail and personal possession.

The long-awaited first sale took place just after midnight in the city of St John’s, Newfoundland, on the Atlantic coast, which benefits from a time zone half an hour ahead of other eastern provinces.

It was made in a store owned by Canopy Growth, the biggest of the Canadian cannabis companies which are increasingly extending their operations internationally too.

Canopy CEO Bruce Linton, who conducted the sale, said: “The last time Canada was this far ahead in anything, Alexander Graham Bell made a phone call.”
