CBD sellers openly flouting Malta’s prescription-only rule

Though cannabis was legalised for medical use  earlier this year, the legal status of CBD in Malta remains uncertain.

While CBD is legally available only on prescription, shops are reportedly selling the oil without prescriptions, and police are said to be overlooking the matter for now.

Malta remains, alongside Germany, Finland, Slovakia and Denmark, one of only a few countries in the European Union not to allow CBD for personal use.

However, Andrew Agius, a Maltese doctor who has long campaigned for the legalisation of cannabis, told CBD-Intel that the authorities treat CBD differently from cannabis.

“CBD can be bought from health shops without a prescription but this is still technically illegal,” he said.
