Basel moves forward with its recreational cannabis trial

Basel will start allowing the sale of recreational cannabis through local pharmacies at the end of the summer as the first Swiss city to win the approval of health authorities for the pilot project.

The trial will involve just 400 participants – far fewer than the 5,000 initially planned, according to Marco Kuhn of Swiss cannabis lobby IG Hanf. Basel residents who already consume cannabis and are at least 18 years old will be able to take part, though the application process will not open until four weeks before the project starts.
